Vivienne Filiatreault, Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy

A very warm welcome to you! I know that it is hard to find the right fit, when you are searching for emotional or other support and you need to find solutions / answers quickly. I can help anyone from early teens to 100 (why not beyond?), to conquer fears, or phobias and other issues and to believe in and accept yourSelf unconditionally, without fear of judgement. I will support you with empathy and understanding. I view therapy as going on a journey of Self - discovery, with another person, (the therapist), as a guide. I am very client - centred, as I believe that every one of us already has the answers stored in our Higher Selves, but we just need tools to unlock that inner wisdom. I give you the keys to unlock your inner potential. What you do with those keys, is totally up to you, but my clients tell me that they have had some remarkable, life - changing experiences, especially under hypnosis and during hypnotherapy. Afterwards, the answers settle into place, when we connect all of the dots together.

Contact me and we will find solutions together!

Interview with Vivienne Filiatreault, from Vivienne Filiatreault Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy:

Q: Vivienne, what are your qualifications?

A: I hold a B.A. in Psychology and English as a double major, studying five languages, namely English, Afrikaans, Dutch, German and Introductory French. I then completed a B.Ed. in Counselling. I am also a Certified Consulting Hypnotist with the National Guild of Hypnotists and hold various other certifications in hypnosis and hypnotherapy. I have accumulated certifications for many different modalities, such as Brief Solution Focused Therapy, Strengths Based Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, the use of Neuro-Linguistic Programming concepts, Best Practices working with anxiety and depression, Post Traumatic trainings and many more. Please see the link on my website, which itemizes the specific trainings which I have attended and completed throughout my whole career. I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Eastern Ontario and I am a verified practitioner on the Psychology Today Directory. I have been a therapist for around 40 years, because I started university when I was 16 years old.

Q: What do you say to people, who may answer that qualifications are all well and good, but what makes you any different to others who offer psychotherapy and hypnotherapy?

A: Great question! I feel that as a practitioner, I may have all the qualifications in the world, but to be a really great therapist, I want to be able to tap into other personal strengths, like empathy, compassion, understanding, non - judgement, with a good balance of using my head AND heart, along with an instinctual response, to support my clients. I want to use Safe and Effective Use of Self principles at all times in my practice. I aim to build a strong rapport with my clients, which in turn builds trust. A load - bearing cornerstone of trust, is confidentiality and ethics combined.

Q: What would you say are the most important aspects of the work that you do?

A: My work, which has a strong focus on hopeful, forward thinking and which brings clarity to clients, is very important to me in these days of multi-media and stress overload. In a chaotic, fast -paced world such as ours, I see that individuals are voicing a need to slow down, stepping forward to make positive changes in their lives. I left a job as a counsellor, to start my private practice, so that I can focus on supporting clients who want change. They ask me for help, in veering away from the rat-race, to reconnect with what they REALLY wish for in life, not to wha is expected from them by any outside influences. My clients tell me that my office gives them a safe space to focus on their mental health and wellbeing. Mental health impacts every aspect of our lives. Without good mental health, our families, our relationships, our work, our creativity and especially our happiness are impacted.

Q: What is the difference between Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy?

A: Hypnosis is the tool I use to empower clients to allow themselves into trance - like, deeper states of consciousness. There are different ways to achieve this, namely instant, rapid or body relaxation inductions, as well as conversational Ericksonian Hypnosis, among others. My clients normally choose body relaxation and we call it Mind Spa Time, even though it is Mind, Body, Spirit - cleansing time.

Hypnotherapy is therapy used during the process of hypnosis. I use psychotherapeutic techniques and tools to unpack and debrief with clients, who are going through their inner journeys and I help them to make sense of what their Unconscious Mind is telling them, through symbols etc. I am an interpreter of dream symbols, but the client always leads the way, in that these symbols and visions which come up in hypnosis, will always have a special, personal meaning to clients.

Q: What are the main States of Consciousness?

A: There are four main states, but various other sub -

states. The main states are: 1) Beta, our normal conscious state

                                              2) Alpha, where e.g. meditation occurs, normally,

or watching TV! Why do you think that you fall asleep?

                                              3) Theta, where I work with clients on a far deeper level.

                                              4) Delta, pure unconsciousness.

Of course, clients cycle between the first three states of consciousness, dependent on their experiences during hypnosis, as well as THEIR ability to LET GO and just BE. The more a client uses hypnosis, the deeper they may go, but every session is unique. Clients sometimes report being in a lighter, but hypnotic state at times, but they also notice that the effects are far deeper, in their everyday lives. That is how amazing our brains are. Neuroscientists are just beginning to make headway on the jaw - dropping, magnificently complex design and the functions of our brains. I see the brain as our Motherboard, with all components of Body, Mind and Spirit attached to it. What we programme into that, impacts everything. That is why Hypnosis is so effective.

Q: How do you work with your clients?

A: I am very client - centered. I work with the client from the inside out, so that the client becomes the proactive participant in life, not just a reactor to life. We cannot change what happens to us, but our power lies in changing how we view these situations and how we reframe them. Clients come to me with a variety of issues, which present as anxiety, depression, PTSD/ In Recovery Process, among others,

but underlying most of these issues, is fear and the question WHY? With traumatized clients, I help them to make sense of the suffering and to take meaning from it in deeper ways. Once that is unpacked with the client, upon request using hypnosis to go deeper, I support the client in changing old worn ways of thinking, to new, exciting ways of viewing the world and I show them how to reframe situations. If the client only wants talk therapy, then I use all of my psychotherapeutic tools, tailored to that particular client. Psychotherapy is a very effective way in which to create lasting changes.

I feel very satisfied doing this work, which I feel is my passion.
